Lexa Doig portrays Andromeda Ascendant, the starship's sophisticated artificial intelligence system.
She was recently seen as Rachel Sanders in the 2004 Canadian miniseries Human Cargo. The story follows the separate lives of several very different people on a collision course in this ever-shrinking modern world. Refugees, terrorists, frustration and hopelessness fuel this heated story of a very scary and all too possible post-9/11 scenario.
The accomplished Toronto native, who is of Philippine and English-Scottish descent, has made numerous appearances in feature films and on television and the stage. Prior to joining Andromeda, Doig starred in such films and telefilms as Jason X, Code Name Phoenix and No Alibi. She played the role of Cowgirl in the TV-movies Tekwar and Tekwar: TekLords as well as in the subsequent TV series. Doig has also been a cast-member of the British series CI5: The New Professionals. In addition, she has guested on popular television series including The Chris Isaak Show, Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict and FX: The Series.
Doig's theater credits include Romeo and Juliet and Arsenic and Old Lace.
She married actor Michael Shanks of Stargate SG-1 in 2003. Their daughter, Mia Tabitha, was born September 13, 2004.
