Article: A Journey into the LUXAN Ways & Beliefs

Date: 03/25/2000
From: Hermione

Vitas Mortis a journey into the Luxan ways and beliefs. I EnJoyed learning more about D'Argo and his past and also more about Luxan's themselves. The more we learn about each member on Moya the better we can understand them and how they tick, if you will. Obviously religion holds a strong place in Zhaans world as we found out in Rhapsody in Blue but it seems to have a great deal of weight with Luxans also. I found the use of a Japanese ritual very interesting at the end. I also got a better look at D'Argo's blade and noticed it looks a little like a halberd, a little smaller though.

I know there will be comments on some particular scenes. A little racy or suggestive yes I'd have to agree with that but not too bad. I have to say when the show first started I had my reservations on where it was going and how it would get there. You look at I ET and you say OK a kid show maybe, but after Back to Back to the Future I realized it wasn't and was glad. To me it is an adult scifi show and like all episodes of shows I have questions about I watch it first then decide if my daughter can watch the tape as I have done with shows like Charmed and Roswell. It's my responsibility; I wouldn't want the show to change because of some questionable scenes that may come up from time to time. OK gave my two cents on that one.

I liked seeing the bond that D'Argo and John had, they are more then allies they've become friends. They both seem to value one another a lot more since their near death experience. John seemed quite concerned about the possibility of losing the only male friend he has. Staying with D'Argo keeping an eye on him and at the end you could see how what needed to happen to Nilaam affected both of them. D'Argo coming to terms with what must be done and John being there to support him. Chianna and Aeryn seemed to of laid some groundwork for some interesing differences of opinions. Rygel was the "butt" of some humor. OK I know that was bad "but" I had to, now see I did it again. Chianna stood on her own two feet. Ok I'll stop. Oh well moving right along. It was nice to see the connection between Aeryn and Pilot brought out again. There is a warmth and understanding between them that I like. Which is another reason I love this show the characters interaction with the puppets, they're not just window dressing there a part.

I EnJoyed the show it gave us a glimpse into D'Argo's world and next week will have a taste of Chianna's. Thank you again to the people down under for another EnJoyable evening.

Oh by the way I caught Ben say the number 78 when he was joking waiting to see Nilaam the reference being to Ben's family NASCAR #78 I imagine. Now to me that is a sign of a relaxed set that likes to have a fun time when you can throw in little bits like that.

Take Care
Jean :~)
