The elves in Iceland are so ingrained in the culture that roads are even rerouted to avoid disturbing places where they might live. Residents have been known to answer "yes and no" when asked if they believe in the creatures' existence. Often described as small human beings, the elves of Iceland are reported to be concerned with preserving nature. At Hafnarfjordur, on the outskirts of Reykjavik, there is a large rock that's generally considered an elf habitat. Tourists often come to see one of the places where the road was diverted to avoid disturbing any supernatural residents near the large stone. In Ljarskogar, a few hours to the north of Reykjavik, the elves might have even brought work at a construction site to a standstill. Bulldozers broke down, and there were some very unusual accidents near one particular stone. Just to clear the air, the workers brought in a medium to find out whether the elves were to blame. According to the medium, the elves did live nearby. They were accepting of the workers moving the stone, they just wanted the workers to find a more dignified manner of getting rid of it than explosives; anything they could do to keep the elven community from harm. |
