This serpentine creature reportedly inhabits the Mekong River in Cambodia and Thailand. Revered as a Buddhist religious symbol, the Naga has a body like that of an anaconda and the head of a dragon, and legends say that it can spit great red balls of fire into the sky. Likenesses of the beast adorn many temples throughout the region, and many Cambodian people consider themselves "born from the Naga."

The number of heads depicted on a Naga statue indicates a gender reference — those with an odd number of heads are male, while an even number of heads implies a female entity.
