JOHN HARRISON
Teleplay Writer, Co-Producer

Frank Herbert's Dune writer/director John Harrison returns to the Dune world, as the teleplay writer and co-producer of the new SCI FI miniseries Frank Herbert's Children of Dune.

Harrison launched his film career directing rock-music videos and acting as first assistant director for renowned horror director George A. Romero. Harrison went on to pen and direct numerous episodes of the Tales from the Darkside TV series, and he later directed Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, a feature-length film for Paramount Pictures that netted him the Grand Prix du Festival at Avoriaz, France.

Harrison's extensive writing and directing credits include Tales from the Crypt, Earth 2, Profiler and the USA Network world-premiere movie Donor Unknown, as well as the Starz/Encore Network world-premiere movie The Assasination File, starring Sherilyn Fenn. In 2001, Harrison's first script for an animated movie, Dinosaur, became another blockbuster success for Disney. In addition, Harrison has written screenplays for Robert Zemeckis and Richard Donner. Harrison's epic-scale adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic novel Dune was a critical and international ratings triumph, the most-watched program in the SCI FI Channel's history, and one of the highest-rated cable miniseries ever.

The Writers Guild of America and the Houston International Film Festival have lauded Harrison with awards for writing and directing.

Harrison, a Pittsburgh native, was schooled at Lehigh University and Boston's Emerson College, where he earned his B.A. in theater. He later received his MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. Harrison began his odyssey through the film world as an actor before shifting his attention to producing, writing and directing.

Harrison currently is adapting Pulitzer Prize-winner David McCullough's epic story The Johnstown Flood for ABC. Harrison will direct the three-hour event movie later this year for executive producer Ridley Scott.
