Susan Sarandon's accomplished and wide-ranging acting career spans projects from serious drama to the risqué, from comedy to political satire.

Sarandon's feature-film credits include Pretty Baby, The Witches of Eastwick, Bull Durham and the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

She earned her first Academy Award nomination for her work in Louis Malle's Atlantic City. She received additional nominations for Thelma and Louise, Lorenzo's Oil and The Client before receiving the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Sister Helen Prejean, the spiritual advisor to a man on death row, in Dead Man Walking.

Most recently, Sarandon starred in Brad Silberling's Moonlight Mile, with Dustin Hoffman; the comedy Igby Goes Down, with Jeff Goldblum; and in The Banger Sisters, with Goldie Hawn and Geoffrey Rush.

Other credits in Sarandon's diverse repertoire include Cats & Dogs; director Henry Selick's animated James and the Giant Peach; Tim Robbins' political satire Bob Roberts; and the documentaries Crossing the Line and This is What Democracy Looks Like.

Sarandon, a former Ford model, was chosen by People magazine as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" in the world, and ranked in Empire magazine's "Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list.

Sarandon is a renowned activist, having lent her voice to various political and humanitarian causes, from promoting the rights of women and the homeless, to garnering support for victims of political oppression and AIDS. She also serves as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

Sarandon is a New York City native.
