Q: I am wondering what you hope to accomplish with a second film about Dune. Having read the book and seen the original movie, I don't see any reason to do a re-make. What will make this one better or different from the other?
A: In all fairness to those who are devoted to the first film, there was a large part of the Dune audience that loved the books but found the film incomplete. Even David Lynch refuses to discuss the movie...for reasons better left to his own privacy. Suffice to say, we are not remaking the Lynch version. In any case, it would be presumptuous and hubristic of me to try to better the work of a filmmaker I truly admire. This miniseries will not reflect the vision or style of his film in any way. But because of the extended length, I believe we've been able to create an honest and comprehensive film version of Frank Herbert's novel independent of any that's come before.
