
Q: Why did you cast Alec Newman as Paul Atreides? He is too old. Paul is 15, and from the pictures I've seen Newman looks much older.
A: In the book, Paul is indeed 15. But the talent pool of actors at that age
who could pull of the metamorphosis this character must undergo is woefully
shallow. I had to make a hard choice about being fanatically true to the
letter or the spirit of Frank Herbert's book. I chose the latter, and I
believe Alec Newman is such a gifted actor that you will completely believe
the journey he goes through...both physically and psychically...from teenage
boy to man.
