Q: I've always believed this story was essentially about the "witches."
Will the series reflect the importance of the role these women played in
Frank Herbert's series? To be sure, will we be exposed to any of the secret
workings of the sisterhood?
A: If you're talking about the entire Dune [series] mythology, you
may have an arguable point. But in [the first book], Dune, I don't
believe the story is about the witches. I believe it's about Paul's journey
from boyhood to enlightenment. And by enlightenment I don't mean a happy
ending. The sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit is amply dealt with in this
version, and ideas are platformed here which will be consistent with the
rest of the story, and with what has come before. Nevertheless, what one
witch (Jessica) started with her defiance of tradition is only the beginning
of our story.
