Mitchell Galin, Dune Executive Producer
Executive producer Mitchell Galin is a seasoned producer, having been
involved in a number of film, television and theater productions. In 1995,
Galin teamed up with Richard P. Rubinstein to form New Amsterdam
Entertainment, Inc., which has produced numerous projects.
Galin's television producing credits include CBS' miniseries A Season in
Purgatory; ABC's Stephen King's The Langoliers and Stephen
King's The Stand, which earned him an Emmy nomination; and the ABC movie
of the week Kiss and Tell. He also produced the award-winning
telefilm The Vernon Johns Story, which starred James Earl Jones and
netted the Christopher Award. Among Galin's other credits are the CBS movie
of the week Precious Victims and two series for which he was
executive in charge of production: Tales from the Darkside and
Monsters, the latter of which he co-created.
Galin again teamed up with a Stephen King project, as producer on the
feature film The Night Flier. Other features for which Galin earned a
feature producer credit include Paramount's Thinner and Tales from
the Darkside: The Movie. He was co-producer on Pet Sematary and
associate producer on New World's Creepshow 2.
Galin's other past accomplishments include serving as executive vice
president of production for Laurel Entertainment, director of creative
affairs for the film production division of Reader's Digest, and
director of development and production supervisor for Robert Halmi, Inc.
He has delved into the theatrical arena by serving on the boards of the
Atlantic Theater Company, which was founded by David Mamet and William Macy
and recently produced the Tony Award-winning play "Beauty Queen of Lenanne,"
and the New Dramatists, the country's most prestigious dramaturgical theater
organization.
The Nashville-based Galin formed his own production company in that
Tennessee city last year, On the Lam Productions, in order to create films,
television and new media projects.
Commented Galin on the making of Dune: "The diverse environments
created for this show will take viewers into different realms that
illuminate the human experience. The story of Dune is steeped in
mythology and biblical currents, yet it foretold some remarkable scientific
discoveries, such as folded space and genetic engineering. Adapting this
marvelous story into a television event for a rapidly emerging network like
SCI FI is a fantastic opportunity."
