Frank Herbert's novel Dune is considered to be one of the greatest science fiction works of all time, but the book itself transcends any genre. Its timeless themes of political intrigue, social upheaval, love and romance, class struggles, and the everyday experience of simply being human have helped the novel sell more than 30 million copies worldwide. Arthur C. Clarke has said of Dune, "I know nothing comparable to it except Lord of the Rings."

In December 2000 writer/director John Harrison, executive producers Richard P. Rubinstein and Mitchell Galin, and producer David Kappes will bring Frank Herbert's Dune to life on the SCI FI Channel in an epic six-hour miniseries starring Academy Award-winner William Hurt as Duke Leto Atreides and International star Giancarlo Giannini as Emperor Shaddam IV. Frank Herbert's Dune recently wrapped principal photography in Prague with a talented cast and crew that included newcomer Alec Newman as Paul Atreides, Matt Keeslar as Feyd, Ian McNeice as Baron Harkonnen, Barbara Kodetova as Chani, and Saskia Reeves as Jessica. Behind the scenes, three time Academy Award winner (Apocalypse Now), Vittorio Storaro, is the cinematographer, and Theodor Pistek--who picked up an Oscar for his work on Amadeus--is the costume designer. Ernest Farino is the visual effects supervisor, and Miljen "Kreka" Kljalkovic is the production designer.
