In Lady in the Water, written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, a modest building manager named Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) rescues a mysterious young woman named Story (Bryce Dallas Howard) from danger. He discovers she is actually a "narf," a nymphlike character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the treacherous journey from our world back to hers. As Cleveland falls in love with Story, he works together with his fellow tenants to protect her from the deadly creatures that are determined to prevent her from returning home.
