Inara Serra (Morena Baccarin)

A licensed Companion, trained and skilled in many forms of love-making, Inara brokered a deal with Mal to rent one of Serenity's shuttles as her residence and place of business.

Inara left the Companion House on Sinhon in order to be on her own, on a ship that travels mostly between the outer planets — an unusual choice for a Companion.

Inara's presence lends an air of legitimacy to the Serenity's crew and activities, and she has fallen in love with life on the ship. She also gets along well with most of the crew, though she struggles to make sense of her complicated love-hate relationship with Mal.

MORENA BACCARIN as Inara Serra

Born in Brazil, Morena Baccarin grew up in New York City, where she attended the renowned LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts before going on to study at the prestigious Juilliard School.

At school, she stared in numerous stage productions, including The Importance of Being Earnest, Love's Labours Lost, The Marriage of Bette and Boo and Macbeth. She spent her summers on stage in Minneapolis, as part of the Guthrie Theater Lab's stage productions of Jack and Jill and The Long Walk.

After graduating from Juilliard, Baccarin began a career in film, participating in director Michael Rymer's largely improvisational film Perfume. She then went on to the role of Rebecca in Dan Kay's Way Off-Broadway, which won her numerous awards, including Best Actress at the Wine Country Film Festival.

Most recently, Baccarin has returned to the Guthrie Theater, to star as the bride in director Marcela Lorca's play Blood Wedding. She will reprise her role as Inara Serra in the feature film Serenity.
