Our Dark Future.
By Eddie Nambulous
What would you do if you could look into the future and what you saw was your worst nightmare?
Let me tell ya, I was always sure I wouldnt want to know. Ignorance is bliss
or so Im told. We all know that a true paranoid is never ignorant. In fact, all too often, were the exact opposite -- we know too much! But there are times I wish I didnt. And recently, I got handed a doozy of example as to why. Foster and I have been at this fight for two years now and (especially with your help) we can feel like were really making headway in this war and that the Second Wave just isnt gonna come. Guess the Gua didnt like that they thought Cade was getting too cocky so they forced him into the apocalyptic future hes been desperate to avoid. They kidnapped Cade and stole his mind all to get at that trusty Nostradamus book -- all to slow Foster down. And they used the only alien we almost trust to do it. The Gua mustve finally caught onto Joshua we hadnt heard from him in a while not since around when Foster got pulled into his last Gua-mind-game the one where they fulfilled his dreams by making him successful in keying in the government about the alien plot to take us down. Foster got out of that one, and weve always kinda suspected that maybe it was Joshua who helped him in the end we cant know, but were guessing. Turns out the aliens stole Joshuas mind and downloaded a nasty, sonufabitch named Cain into his body. Cains here to find the Book, and he thought hed get his kicks screwing with Foster to do it. The alien doppelganger lured Foster in, posing as Joshua, and kidnapped Cade back to a secret lab where they put Foster in a dreamscape machine. They presented the darkest future Cade could imagine. But even in his hallucinatory nightmare, Foster saw that a resistance starts with one, then a few, then many. The irony being the one alien he hoped would join us and start that chain reaction amongst the Gua was "the one" pulling the strings in their latest, torturous experiment to mess with Cades head. It was our faith in Joshua that got Cade in this mess. Sort of. When Cain pulled Cade out of the nightmare, Foster was understandably screwed up and confused. He still thought this new bad-ass alien Cain was Joshua. Foster and I trusted Joshua
now we dont even know where he is. (cont).
Cade lived all his worst fears seeing himself selling out humanity, the betrayal of an ally in Joshua, another new ally, Claire, murdered in cold blood he even had to say goodbye to me. But again, he survived. Even in that unreality I told Foster that I would get the book and the quatrains, start the resistance up again I even thanked him for getting me back into the life. Sure I had a nice garden and the aliens mostly left me alone in that apocalyptic world but Foster and I knew then we could never sell out wed fight as long as we had breath and a modem. It was what we knew. And we did it better than anybody else. The Gua sent in a fake me, figuring if anyone could trick Foster into giving them the location of the Nostradamus book it was Crazy Eddie N but Cade and I were always one step ahead of those Gua freaks. So never fear, Nostradamus is in the clear. Cade always says it, but its never been more true the Gua have always underestimated us. Foster got out of there with his life Cain was nothing more than a bigger bully in Joshuas buff-bod. And while the Gua were off playing with fake quatrains and feeling all powerful, we were wondering where the real Joshua had been sent? Cains plot to find the Nostradamus book had both Foster and I reeling over a glimpse of a possible future for humanity enslavement by the Gua. In the face of that future our journeys been given new purpose. It was a clear cut case of being able to look into the future and say screw you! No way! We just aint going down! Not that way, or any other! So maybe foresight is a good thing, even when what you see is bad. Its you guys, our believers, that buck us up here, you give us props, the positive reinforcement we need
but seeing the bad can push us faster and harder too. And this time it has. Were wondering about the fate of Joshua with him out of the way the aliens are more on the offensive than ever. And now the Gua know how badly they need to stop Foster. They can take what they learned from his torture to heart. Cade wont ever back down against them. And neither will we.
