3.11 WEDNESDAY'S CHILD
She's been here a while now. Jordan - the latest addition to our super-exclusive club of alien fighters. And boy are we glad to have her.
Let's give credit where credit is due. The sweet Lady J is single handedly responsible for creating a modern day militia dedicated to eradicating Gua - you and I know it well -- it's "The Raven Nation." That alone makes Jordan responsible for backing up Team Foster on dozens of missions this year and for adding a major boost to spirits here at the Airstream as well. Foster and I thank our lucky stars for Jordan, though maybe not as openly as we should _ tell you the truth, Jordan probably wouldn't like that. But I wanted to take this time to give her some props here on the site -- especially after what she went through this week.
It was Jordan's turn to go undercover when we tracked some mysterious and radically helpful tips we'd been getting to a little girl in the suburbs. Turns out the kid was experiencing some kind of funky mind-link with the evil alien Anti-Christ (and our number one target) Mabus. Jordan met the kid and they established a fast and furious bond.
The only problem being Emily was dying, and it seemed like a direct result of her connection to the Guahead.
Emily begged Jordan to leave her, the kid had lost her parents, seemed pretty lonely but didn't want to see her new friend hurt. And the kid wasn't stupid either. She could feel what was happening to her - she knew she was dying inside.
But Jordan couldn't let Emily die. She'd seen this sorta thing happen before, with her brother Daniel. She doesn't talk about it much, and she always credits Cade for her drive to fight, but the truth is, Jordan fights because of what she lost. Because she hated seeing the Gua's games ravage her dearest family member and because she saw how, in his mind, her brother fought back with all he had. Daniel was a victim of the same experiment that resulted in Cade's quest - a test of human will.
Jordan is here today because in those last fevered minutes of his life, Daniel was able to overcome the Gua's influence and spare his beloved sister. In truth, Jordan isn't fighting Foster's fight, she's simply continuing her brother's.
And Emily didn't think she could fight Mabus either - she was just a kid and the Gua AC was too strong. Jordan told her they were fighting him now, together.
That's when Emily told J that Mabus wanted to hurt Jordan too and Emily knew she couldn't stop him. Jordan encouraged the kid, told her they were a great team and that they were gonna win. But Emily thought the poem her Aunt Anne had made for her proved it - it was called "Wednesday's Child." Emily had been born on a Wednesday and so the poem claimed she would always be "full of woe." The kid interpreted that as her death. But Jordan was a Wednesday-girl herself, and Jordan was still here, so she knew Emily could be too.
And then it all clicked into place for our resident diva-heroine. Foster and I were off chasing a false lead while Jordan was getting closer to the kid - and she realized that was exactly what Mabus wanted. Mabus was using Emily. He wasn't after the little girl.
His real prize was Jordan.
The poem was from Jordan's childhood, her mom used to read it to her. Emily's parents had been run off the road in a totally random way. The bomb scares were bogus. Mabus knew Jordan would become attached, knew she would empathize with Emily's traumas and wouldn't leave the girl's side. Mabus was harming an innocent child to get to the fairer third of Team Foster, so Jordan did exactly what Foster and I would have expected her to do.
She went into Mabus and Emily's psychic netherworld to confront the demon.
And what she found there has rocked us all to the core. Jordan's tough, it takes a lot to rattle her cage but we can tell her encounter with Big M scared the beejezus out of her. She held on as long as she could to get Emily to safety, but the kid didn't want to abandon Jordan either. Fortunately Cade figured out a clue from a quatrain and busted into the netherworld to pull our girls out. Once home, Emily was safe and her health was back to normal too - she was gonna be fine.
But we have a feeling Jordan may have been changed forever.
Jordan exploded into our world all those months ago and changed this fight. We may not talk about it, but since she joined us there's even more hope that we can win - she boosts us up and keeps us going. And now there's even more hope for Foster to heal from his losses _ maybe even for them to heal together?
When Jordan confronted Mabus, he told her she was special to the Gua, what he was talking about remains a mystery, and though we ain't gabbing about it over dinner it's put us all on our guard.
So to Mabus I wanna offer this: Jordan's one of our own now - and there's no way we'll ever let anything happen to her.
Mabus has had plenty of plans since he sent his race to this earth and we've foiled every one we know about. Jordan makes it even easier to do. And she's our friend. Our family now.
No way we're gonna let her go anywhere.
'Cause we'll die defending one of our own. And she feels the same.
Eddie
