[ HULK : THE LOWDOWN ]
Born in the heart of the atom, a child of those 20th-century Brothers Grimm Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Marvel Comics antihero called the Hulk has evolved from The Incredible Hulk #1 in 1962 through green-skinned and gray-skinned iterations ... through brutish "Hulk stomp!" in the '60s and '70s to thuggish pure Id in the '80s to scientist-badass in the '90s to something new again now. In the classic live-action series The Incredible Hulk, starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, the Hulk epitomized the rage within us, as humanity struggles to stay civilized in the face of ever-more-powerful and ever-more-personal oppressors. That theme remains relevant decades later, informing the 2003 movie hit — just one more bit of evidence that the Hulk himself remains, clearly, as incredible as ever.
