The Outer Limits
THE FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN
Directed by Gerd Oswald
Written by Joseph Stefano

After two girls murder a ruthless man, they come upon a blind man's house wherein lies a time-slanting machine. This machine is believed to have the power to go back into the past with a tilting device and bring the dead back to life. The inventor brings himself and the murdered man back, only to realize that God alone should have the power to decide on life or death.

NOTES: Vera Miles is best-known for playing the sister of the knifed Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Barbara Rush had starred in the 1953 B-movie classic It Came from Outer Space and co-starred in such renowned films as The Young Philadelphians and Magnificent Obsession. David McCallum would play spy Illya Kuryakin in the hit 1960s series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He also appeared in The Outer Limits episode "The Sixth Finger."

This is among Joseph Stefano's favorite episodes that he wrote for The Outer Limits. One version of the script was done as a possible pilot for a new series, possibly with David McCallum as the lead. It is an evocatively filmed episode, exquisite in its mood and pace. The characters are subtly drawn (especially those of Vera Miles and Barbara Rush) so that their motivations can be interpreted in different ways. It remains very sophisticated programming, all these decades later.
