Author Biography and Bibliography

Born September 15, 1942, in Berkeley, California, Yarbro grew up in Northern California, attended Bay Area schools and began her writing career in children's theatre in 1961. Her first story appeared in 1969.

Yarbro has worked as a cartographer, a counselor at a camp for mentally disturbed children, a tarot- and palm-reader, a vocal coach, and, very briefly, a theater manager. Aside from writing, she composes serious music. Her domestic accomplishments consist of cooking and needlepoint. For amusement, she rides horseback or attends the opera. Married in 1969, Yarbro and Donald Simpson divorced amicably in 1981; they have no children. She currently lives with two cats—Laetitia and Flannel—in Berkeley.

In 1968 she sold her first story and never looked back. A full-time writer since 1970, as of the end of 1999, Yarbro has sold over 60 books, an equal number of short fiction, and more than a dozen essays. Her interests range from horror to mysteries to science fiction to westerns to young adult adventures. She is best-known for her series of historical horror novels, the Saint-Germain cycle, of which there are currently 14 titles, and no end in sight.
