Author Biography and Bibliography
|
I was born two-thirds of the way through the last century, in London, where I currently live (south of the river). I studied at the universities of Aberdeen and Cambridge, and now I work at Royal Holloway, one of the colleges of the University of London, specialising in nineteenth-century literature and science fiction. My partner Rachel recently gave birth to our first child, a baby girl called Lily. My first novel Salt (Gollancz 2000) was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award;
my second novel is On (Gollancz 2001). My third novel, Stone (Gollancz 2002) will come out in July. I have also published a novella, Park Polar (PS Publishing 2002), and a number of short stories at infinityplus.co.uk. There is also a list of academic publications, many of them on nineteenth-century literature, but I have written a short introduction to sf (Science Fiction, Routledge New Critical Idiom 1999), and I'm working on a larger-scale Critical History of SF for Palgrave, to be published 2004.
