The Letters to the Editor department is intended to be a forum for our readers to express their own opinions and ideas. While we appreciate the many complimentary letters we receive each day, you won't find them on this page. Instead, you will find letters that go beyond or even contradict what we have written, letters that offer a different perspective and provide a different view of science fiction. If you would like to submit a letter, please use our feedback form or send a message to scifiweekly@scifi.com.

Habitat was one of the best
ontrary to your review, Habitat was one of the best science
fiction movies I've seen in quite a while.
You say that Habitat "is a strange soup -- sometimes a
reeking swill -- of scientific theory, teeny-bopper outsider angst and sex
(badly Freudian, sometimes creepily puerile)." I would respond that
real life tends to be the same, or most often worse.
If you believe that "The acting, while hard to qualify as good, is at
least reasonable and only rarely ridiculous," you may not be familiar
with the high caliber actors and actresses in this production. There are
not many who could have done the job of Tcheky Karyo or Alice Krige.
"A strong thumbs down, though, to Habitat's prurient use of
the breast." What? The Sci-Fi Channel version that I saw was heavily
cut, with not one breast in sight. I wondered why The Sci-Fi Channel
would so obviously cut one of its "original" productions.
I suspect that your criticism may be due to the Canadian
production and European feel of the movie. American science
fiction tends to have a much more sterile and technical feel that
this movie avoided.
Take my words with a grain of salt. I also happen to be a Babylon
5 fan, and while I love the traditional Star Treks, Star Wars and the rest, it's about time we moved on with our concept of science fiction.

Dancouger isn't new
an I just point out that Dancougar does not meet
up to the nowadays anime because it is at least six years
old!! I finished the series about six and a half years
ago in Chinese. Anyway, I really like it and would like
some info on where you can get the videos apart from in
USA. Cheers.

Editor: May, we review anime as it's released in the United States, so while many of these series have come and gone elsewhere, they are new to U.S. readers.
Thanks for the memories
ust wanted to say "thank you," I enjoyed your review of Forbidden
Planet. It is still one of my all time favorites. I saw it when it was
first released, at the drive in theater in Atlanta, Ga. with my mother,
father, and younger brother and sister. It brings back fond memories.
I still enjoy watching it from the video that I have, have never been able
to interest my children, maybe I can the grand-children.
Again, thank you for your well written review. I look forward to more.
