ypecasting can be a killer. So can a blaster bolt to the abdomen. Just ask Greedo, the bounty hunter who brazenly challenged Han Solo in the original Star Wars. One little slipup and the green one was forever branded as cocky, incompetent and--unfortunately--dead.
The Greedo Page honors one of Jabba the Hutt's most short-lived employees with a page that sets the record straight and tells visitors more than they ever wanted to know about the galaxy's favorite Rodian.
The site is divided into several sections that are augmented by free-standing news briefs. Greedo's biography section tells of the bounty hunter's early days, ending with his untimely death at the hands of a certain scruffy-looking nerfherder. The Secrets section goes behind the scenes of Greedo's single appearance and gives insights into his not-so-sterling character. In the Hall of Greedos, visitors can see the Greedos that never were, as the site's creators manipulate a variety of popular figures into slightly greener form. Among the popular characters and individuals who have been Greedoized: Citizen Greedo, Fox Greedo from the G-Files, Greedo Cop and others. Creating these mutations isn't a trade secret--visitors can find out how to make their own in the Build Your Own Greedo section.
In the briefs section, there are links to other Greedo sites, including The Greedo Assassination Conspiracy page, which explains how Greedo was killed by the "magic" blaster shot. And those who couldn't get enough of Greedo in A New Hope can download a new, fan-created Greedo movie clip called You Can't Handle Greedo!
15 seconds of fame
Greedo's brief appearance left fans with so many unanswered questions. Who was this bounty hunter? Where did he come from? Why on Tatooine did Jabba hire him? How could he possibly have shot at and missed Solo at point-blank range?
The Greedo Page has some of those answers. Like the best of the fan-generated Star Wars sites, it walks the razor's edge of coolness as it delves into a distinctly '90s version of hero worship. Its features--like the Hall of Greedos--are funny without being stupid. There's respect and appreciation for the character here, but the site never takes itself, or its star, too seriously. Or at least not that seriously.
Reminiscent of the much longer Troops short film, You Can't Handle Greedo! is a funny bit which substitutes the green one for Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men. The Greedo screen saver featured on the site is worth a few good chuckles, and the cantina MIDI sound file should bring back a few good memories. For truly devoted fans, the site even includes a link to a list of dates and places where they can meet the woman who played Greedo in the movie.
The best part of the site, though, is the Hall of Greedos. The lovingly crafted Greedos--and someone would have to love Greedo to spend this much time designing spoofs based on them--are excellently rendered. These aren't poor hack jobs--they are quality Greedoized celebrities, and they're sure to keep visitors coming back for more. All in all, The Greedo Page gives visitors a good look at a character whose 15 minutes of fame were cut far too short.
