The roads of a thousand worlds lead to Emerald City, a monthly webzine offering science fiction, fantasy and book reviews. The webzine reviews an impressive array of speculative fiction, looking at a dozen or more books in each issue.
The reviews are just long enough to give a solid overview of books and do a good job of highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, while at the same time pointing out the reviewers' own biases and preferences. Book reviews form the mainstay of each issue but are supplemented by commentaries, interviews, movie reviews, convention reviews and a short-fiction news roundup. Issues are published in PDF, Word and HTML formats which makes the 'zine easily portable for those without ubiquitous Internet connections.

Literary travelers looking for more frequent genre news updates can check out the Emerald City blog, which features daily posts linking to convention news, new book releases and speculative-fiction commentary. It's ideal for time-stretched people who'd like keep up with the Locus letters page or New York Times book reviews but aren't always able to.
