By Paul Di Filippo

J.P. Frantz and John DeNardo are two well-versed aficionados of all things fantastical. They call their brainchild SF Signal a simple blog, but it's rather more than that. Serving as an intelligent filter of what's available on the Web, they post many, many links to interviews, reviews, YouTube videos, products, podcasts and other good stuff. But they also offer original content.
They review books in a cross between pure criticism and a buyer's guide. The piece from Oct. 11, 2006, on Marvin Kaye's anthology Forbidden Planets is a good example. Frantz and DeNardo (supplemented by other contributors) also offers opinion pieces, such as "5 (Spoilery) Things About Heroes That Annoy the Begeezus Out Of Me." And they also stage opinion polls that make for fascinating results: I'm glad to see that 52.9 percent of respondents like most online book reviews, since I'm responsible for perpetrating one a week!

And finally, as if you don't have enough to occupy your time, check out the page of links to blogs by SF authors. Incredibly handy and addictive. New poems by Tom Disch for free?!? Thank you, SF Signal!
