Time travel makes great fodder for sequels. No matter how definitive the victory may have been in the hero's last outing, no matter how much they believe they truly won the day, there's always the chance that another villain's lurking somewhere out in the timestream. The Terminator franchise has taken excellent advantage of these loopholes, first with the Judgment Day sequel, then again with The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and hopefully once more with the latest film, Terminator: Salvation. The fan Web site Terminator Files chronicles this frequent rewriting of James Cameron's original science-fiction timeline with news about upcoming movie and television projects, past, present and future cast news and interviews with series stars. Delving beneath the homepage reveals a variety of official and fan-generated content. There's a collection of Windows and Mac screen savers (the latter of which unfortunately don't work with Mac OS X Leopard) from Terminator 2 and Terminator 3, a bunch of super-sized photos for use as desktop images and WAV files from the three theatrical releases. There's also a cache of skins for Unreal Tournament, Neverwinter Nights and Half-Life that allow players to assume the classic exoskeleton look of the T-800 in game.
Elsewhere on the site there are extensive files chronicling the franchise's variant timelines and chronology, showing each iteration that's been spawned by the comic-book, movie and television sequels. These are particularly handy for anyone trying to figure out exactly when Judgment Day is supposed to happen, when Skynet became self-aware or any other time-related minutiae from the series. |
