Synopsis: A tragedy from his past haunts Kirk again when boyhood friend Tom Leighton shares his suspicion that elder actor Anton Karidian is actually the infamous "Kodos the Executioner" of their onetime home, Tarsus IV. When Leighton's mysterious death leaves only Kirk and Lt. Kevin Riley as the sole surviving eyewitnesses to Kodos, Kirk approaches Karidian's beautiful daughter Lenore and offers their stranded troupe transport. Riley and Kirk each barely escape murder while the troupe performs a scene from Hamlet, which ironically helps unmask the real Kodos and the fates of the long-dead witnesses.
