Synopsis: As much as the Vulcan can reveal, Spock seems shattered by the debilitating radiation accident which has confined his longtime captain and mentor, Christopher Pike, to a bare existence in a wheelchair at Starbase 12. But Kirk and the starbase's Commodore Mendez can hardly believe the Vulcan would kidnap Pike and hijack the Enterprise -- which are the just the charges presented against Spock when the senior officers are forced to open a shipboard courtmartial after a baffling series of events.
