Title: This Side of Paradise
Production: 25
Original Airdate: March 2, 1967
Stardate: 3417.3
Synopsis: The farming colony on Omicron Ceti III is supposed to be dying from unexpected solar radiation, but an Enterprise evacuation party finds the group healthy and strangely serene. A spore plant is found to be a natural immunizer, but it has a side effect -- intellectual stagnation and emotional bliss. Kirk faces the first Starfleet mutiny on record as the crew deserts for this "paradise." Among the mutineers is Spock, stripped of his stoicism by the pods and an unrequited old flame, Leila Kalomi, who is determined to use paradise to her advantage.

Guest Cast:
Eddie Paskey as Leslie
Jill Ireland as Leila Kalomi
Frank Overton as Elias Sandoval

Leila, an old "friend" of Spock's, finally asks him what his real name is. What is Spock's answer?

Spock: "I've never understood the female capacity to avoid a direct answer to any question."

The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever" is released this year.

Spock: "You couldn't pronounce it."
