Synopsis: The Enterpriseis bound for a diplomatic show-of-force in the troubled Altair system when Spock loses of his usual dispassion and solemnly requests a diversion to his homeworld. Kirk puts in a formal request, but is denied by his superiors. Meanwhile, an increasingly volatile Spock reveals that his seven-year Vulcan mating cycle has begun and he must return home to take his intended bride -- or die. Kirk makes a decision that could cost him his career and orders a course change to the Vulcan homeworld. What no one can foresee is that T'Pring, Spock's arranged mate since childhood, has other ideas.
