Title: The Doomsday Machine
Production: 35
Original Airdate: October 20, 1967
Stardate: 4202.9
Synopsis: Commodore Matt Decker, in paralytic shock, is the sole survivor of the Enterprise's sister ship, the Constellation. The immensely powerful starship was lost after its valiant yet hopeless fight against an enormous berserker machine that pulverizes planets with a force beam and consumes them for fuel. Kirk beams over to the dead hulk to try to lure the planet-killer into a booby-trap. When the planet-killer reappears again, hungry and bound for Rigel and the heart of the Federation, the obsessed and guilt-ridden Decker usurps Spock's command and blindly tries to attack again with the Enterprise. Kirk scrambles back to his own ship, just as Decker hijacks a shuttle craft and aims it straight at the machine, blasting all the way. Brave as it was, it fails to make a dent, and Kirk's only option is to try Decker's plan with a larger bait -- himself and the Constellation. But the timing is tricky. If he doesn't want to share Decker's fate, he has to beam back, right at the moment that the Constellation is in the planet-killer's throat. But there's a catch. The transporter's aren't quite working...
