Title: Bread and Circuses
Production: 43
Original Airdate: March 15, 1968
Stardate: 4040.7
Synopsis: Yet another example of parallel planet development is discovered on 892-IV, where a virtual Roman Empire set on a 20th century level reigns supreme -- despite a sun-worshipping underground. Sent to check on the missing S.S. Beagle, previously lost in the region, Kirk's landing party is taken hostage and forced into gladiatorial slavery just as the Beagle crew was. But there's more to the tale. Kirk finds the Beagle's captain alive -- and complicit in the deaths of his crew. With no way out, Kirk realizes he'll have to die rather than sacrifice his crew and violate the Prime Directive.

Guest Cast:
Rhodes Reason as Flavius
William Smithers as Capt. R.M. Merik
Logan Ramsey as Claudius Marcus
Lois Jewell as Drusilla

What class is the planet they beam down to?

McCoy: "You're not afraid to die, Spock. You're more afraid of living. Each day you stay alive is just one more day you might slip and let your human half peek out!"
