Synopsis: The Klingons have done nothing to improve relations since their last encounter with Kirk, and now he's received word they have massacred a colony on Beta XII-A. Trouble is, the Klingons think the Federation has done the same to their colony. Taken into custody with their ship destroyed, Commander Kang and crew are soon liberated by an entity that feeds off hate and aims to keep both sides at war, even repairing their dead and wounded to fight an eternal battle aboard the isolated Enterprise. Amid the dark passions engulfing one and all, Kirk realizes he must convince his Klingon counterpart somehow that they must bury the sword and starve the entity before the habit of hate is too ingrained to resist.
