Synopsis:
McCoy's mercy mission to aid an ailing colony leader uncovers the sadistic Platonians: 38 refugees from a doomed world whose profession for Plato's ideals is undermined by their arrogance brought on by massive telekinetic powers. Parmen, the leader, is so powerful he can shake the starship as it orbits overhead -- and threatens to do so in order to keep McCoy hostage to tend to him from now on. Kirk and Spock, who won't leave without the doctor, risk their lives and dignity to try to break the secret of the Platonians' telekinesis with the help of the lone native without it -- Alexander, a dwarf at their mercy as the colony's long-suffering, humiliated servant.
