Title: The Mark of Gideon
Production: 72
Original Airdate: January 17, 1969
Stardate: 5423.4
Synopsis:
Kirk exits a transporter beam into a surreal setting: totally alone on
his empty starship, joined only by a beautiful humanoid woman named
Odona who claims to be ignorant of their situation. To the crew, he has
disappeared while beaming down to planet Gideon's council room, where
Prime Minister Hodin says he never materialized. But the Gideonite
leader is not being truthful: his people are literally crammed onto the
planet, having eschewed birth control generations ago, and Kirk has
been kidnapped in a bizarre experiment. Odona is Hodin's daughter, and
as an example of sacrifice he wants to infect her with a deadly disease,
now dormant in Kirk after he barely survived it as a
youth. When Hodin gives Spock the diplomatic run-around for a search,
it's up to Kirk himself to figure out what's going on -- and even to
relaize where he is.
Guest Cast:
Sharon Acker as Odona
David Hurst as Hodin
Gene Dynarski as Krodak
