Janice Lester, a onetime love interest of Kirk, has grown so bitter
over her rejection from the Academy that she blames sexism as the
reason she washed out of the program. Focusing her revenge on Kirk, she
tricks him into an ancient alien life-energy transfer device and
succeeds in instilling her essence in his body, taking command at last,
banishing the Kirk/Lester female form to a drugged state as insane so
as to remain undetected. Even though the real captain is seemingly
banished to the care of the doctor whose love Lester rejects, cracks in
her facade as Kirk lead the senior officers to start asking questions
-- and right into their own sham court-martial.
