The story that I'm going to relate to you happened about 10 years ago. Until now, I've mentioned it only to my family.
At the time [in 1992], I lived on Long Island, in the eastern part of New York State. Back then my wife and I owned a business on the southern shore. One day we finished work early. I walked her out to her car. As I returned, I waved good-bye to her.
That day we were experiencing very low-level clouds (which is not uncommon on Long Island), the type that if you reach up you almost feel like you can touch them. I looked up, and all of a sudden a very bright, circular yellow disk about 50 feet to 60 feet [in diameter] broke through the clouds, heading in a northerly direction. It whisked by in about four or five seconds, following the parkway. I'd say it was maybe 100 feet up, directly over my head. It never made a sound as it moved away at an incredible speed.
I did not have my camera on me, so I have no proof of what I saw. I never reported it. Over the years, I've regreted not telling anyone what I experienced, and I've wondered if anyone else saw what I saw that day. I understand why, if anyone else witnessed it with no proof, they didn't come forward.
One more item: Brookhaven Lab is only 10 miles away.
