JIMMY CARTER, THE NOBEL PRIZE AND UFOs
Former President Jimmy Carter has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a former Naval Academy graduate and naval officer who spent many nights on watch looking at the night skies before becoming governor of Georgia. In January 1969, Carter was doing some politicking at the Leary, Ga., Lion's Club when suddenly a UFO "as bright as the moon" flashed before his eyes. A red-and-green glowing orb hurtled across the southwestern skies. Ten minutes later, it vanished. That was Jimmy Carter's story and he has stuck to it.
Carter became the first major politician to risk achieving "crackpot" status by claiming he had had a close encounter. "I don't laugh at people anymore when they say they've seen UFOs," Carter said at the Southern Governors' Conference a few years later. "I've seen one myself." While he was on the campaign trail, he even tried to use it to his advantage. "A light appeared and disappeared in the sky," he told a Washington Post reporter in 1975. "It got brighter and brighter. I have no idea what it was I think it was a light beckoning me to run in the California primary for president."
Carter, while running for president, said: "What I would do is make information we have about those [UFO] sightings available to the public. ... I have never tried to identify what I saw. You know, it was a light in the western sky that was very unique. I had never seen it before. There were about 20 of us who saw it. None of us could figure out what it was. I don't think it was anything solid. It was just like a light. It was a curious aberration, so I don't make fun of people who say they've see unidentified objects in the sky."
As Jimmy Carter receives his Nobel Peace Prize, it might be important to note that other important Nobel winners also have taken an interest in exploring an extraterrestrial angle to world peace. Former Prime Minister of Canada Lester B. Pearson actually brought up the extraterrestrial possibilities during his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957.
"Perhaps there is a hopeful possibility here in the conquest of outer space," Pearson said. "Interplanetary activity may well give us planetary peace. Once we discover Martian spaceships hovering over Earth's airspace, we will all come together. 'How dare they threaten us like this!' we shall shout, as one, at a really United Nations!"

CONNECTICUT LIGHTS
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: SIMSBURY, Conn. Matt [ name withheld by request ] reported, via e-mail, that at around midnight on October 8, 2002, "I saw three lights that were not moving [near] the Simsbury Airport. The lights just seemed to float about the same speed as my car and seemed to be flying pretty low. Maybe a helicopter, but it didn't look like one. It was more like a flying cylinder."

WISCONSIN BRIGHT LIGHTS
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. Carmen K. [ name withheld by request ] submitted the following report:
"My husband called me outside around 8:30 p.m. to observe strange lights in the sky on October 9, 2002, and I saw what appeared to be a falling star, and told him that's what I thought it was.
"At that point two objects became apparent and began flashing like strobe lights. At first they were white in color as they moved west. They then looped around and within seconds were back in the same spot I had first seen them. We called out to my son and our parents, and we all observed them for around 30 more minutes. At one point we saw five lights ranging in color from white to red. When they were red, the light was steady and not flashing like the rest of them.
"A plane then flew overhead and the lights seemed to follow [it] and come up on the plane very quickly, like they were observing the plane. They then disappeared for a few minutes and reappeared in the same spot I had first seen them."

ILLINOIS FIREBALL FLYING TRIANGLE
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: CHICAGO Bill Putney submitted this brief encounter report via e-mail:
"I saw a fireball of some type in the western sky at 6:20 p.m. on October 14, 2002. It was bright orange with a tail. I live in Chicago, two miles north of downtown and three miles west of Lake Michigan."
TWO UFOs, SPARKS AND A MUSHROOM-CLOUD UFO IN ARIZONA
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. An anonymous source submitted the following report via e-mail:
"My partner and I saw what we can only think was a UFO on Thursday evening, September 19, near the entrance of Wupatki Monument, off Highway 89, heading north out of town at 7:30 in the evening. It was a mild, clear evening with a full moon, and we saw a very bright light about 15 miles west of us, near a grouping of old, small volcanoes. At first the bright light looked like a helicopter spotlight but it was not. There was no sound. The nature of the light was a creamy off-white phosphorescent color, illuminated from within, and it kept expanding. It shined down upon the ground, without any determinable shape that we could tell. The 'object' disappeared, but the 'light cloud' continued to grow brighter, and bigger. It kept doing this for ten minutes or more and looked like a miniature atomic-bomb blast.
"The light cloud glowed brighter and expanded in every dimension. At some point, this light cloud started to dissipate, and then we noticed to its south, another smaller light cloud similar to what we had been watching. After the two light clouds disappeared, we noticed a plume of smoke or haze in a strange shape at least a half-mile in diameter above the first cinder hill. We called the local observatory (Lowell) and asked about any rocket launches and they knew nothing and said nothing. The whole observation was about 45 minutes. It was quite startling, as we wracked our brains and could think of no natural or man-made phenomenon that would have created what we had witnessed. Our mutual impression was that this was some sort of extraterrestrial sighting."
ORANGE UFOs IN HUGE "V" FORMATION OVER UTAH
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: TAYLORSVILLE, Utah Dave Rosenfeld submitted this encounter record via e-mail:
"On September 26, 2002, we were traveling home when several objects in a 'V' formation were seen. The lights were slowly moving and hovering into straight lines. At 9:15 p.m., a triangle-shaped object flew over our heads, making a low, humming sound. Then, one shot straight up, like something going into space, but it didn't. One flew right over our heads at 300 feet and looked like a triangle and immediately changed direction, moving at 1,000 to 3,000 mph. Nothing that I know of can go at that speed and move from right to left so quickly. The other lights were still there; they had an orange glow to them. We stayed for an hour and watched these strange objects. It was not of this world or maybe it was the government testing something very large and strange. There wasn't a logical explanation of what I saw. Now there is no doubt in my mind that we are not alone in the universe."
WASHINGTON PHOTOS CONTINUE
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: SPOKANE, Wash. "Ed" [ name withheld by request ], a judge who lives on a vista overlooking Spokane, Wash., wrote to us to offer this close-encounter report:
"I just wanted to update you on the recurrent sightings of unexplained craft in the Spokane area. I listened to George Filer and Peter Davenport on recent Jeff Rense radio shows, and both of their sites contain independent reports from the Spokane area confirming that something strange is indeed going on here. I continue to observe anomalous craft nearly every night. I have received mail from people all over the world who have viewed my photos, and they have been asking to see more. The other night on your radio program, your guest noted that you perform a very important public service by disseminating information of this type. I have a number of recent photos which I am sending to you, and hope that you will post them to your site."
George Filer's Note: For several weeks now, Ed has been taking a series of photos of plasma-like objects. These UFOs appear to enter and leave the ground near a tower. The lights on the tower remain fixed while the plasma lights fly around the area, sometimes interfering with commercial air traffic. One type of known plasma is ball lightning.
Several highly qualified investigators have gone to the area and tried to see or reproduce Ed's photos of the lights without success. Our investigation continues, however, because Ed takes photographs on a nightly basis.
Jeff Sainio, MUFON photo analyst, says, "The images do not match the lighting of any known aircraft."

CANADIANS OBSERVE FLASHING RED LIGHTS
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: VANCOUVER, British Columbia An anonymous witness submitted the following account via e-mail:
"About 8:06 p.m., on September 18, 2002, I got a call from a friend telling me to go outside. She was kind of frantic. She said, 'There was something in the sky to the northwest!' I looked up and saw a four-inch-long at arm's-length, lighted craft, and our phones began to buzz and break up. I then called 911, and they gave me the number to the UFO hotline. I explained, 'It was oblong from my view and had a line of flashing red lights, and it was moving up and down in an odd manner and not like a conventional aircraft.' My daughter and I watched for five minutes as it moved northwest and disappeared."
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: SAYWARD, British Columbia Brian Vike reported, via e-mail, the following July 29, 2002, UFO sighting:
"We have 15 witnesses who told me they thought the object was under some kind of control. They report a meteor-like object climbed up over a large mountain range, made loops, changing direction in mid-flight and headed the opposite way it came from. The July 29, 2002, object looked like a plane blowing up! (A huge fireball of flame.) [One witness] also told me that the object was very low to the ground, but it was hard to estimate its exact altitude. It was traveling straight along, not falling at an angle. This witness said she heard no sound coming from it. She described the color as being orange/yellow. It also had a short tail following behind. In her estimation she figured the total time of the sighting lasted between 5 to 8 seconds. So far I have received just over 100 sighting reports for 2002."

ENGLISH WITNESSES SEE LIGHT "BIGGER THAN A STAR"
FILER'S FILES EXCLUSIVE: TICKHILL, YORKSHIRE, U.K. Donna [ name withheld by request ] e-mailed this sighting report:
"On October 12, 2002, my fiancé and I were walking home when he noticed a strange light in the sky, at 7:45 p.m. He pointed it out to me and we both observed an object bigger and brighter than a star for about two minutes. The movement it made was strange; it swayed from side to side and seemed to bob up and down. The light faded and got brighter whilst we watched it for about two minutes, until it eventually just disappeared, but it did not move away it just faded away. We both observed strange, white beams of light coming off it that resembled a sparkler."

MALAYSIA "FLYING COFFIN" PICKED UP ON CAMERA
KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia The Daily Express, an independent national newspaper in East Malaysia, reported that on October 4, 2002, a surveillance camera mounted atop the Kota Kinabalu International Airport terminal captured a rather strange sight resembling a "flying coffin" hovering over Terminal Two.
A senior Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) officer said the revolving camera was focusing on the Terminal Two area at about 7:06 p.m. when an object flew through its field of vision in a matter of seconds, before disappearing from the screen. It was not picked up on radar.
A security guard on duty in the area claimed to have seen the object flying at great speed over Terminal Two, initially rising from the direction of the sea before disappearing over the hills adjacent to the KKIA terminal. "There was no sound at all," he said.
