FILER'S FILES NEWS ITEMS A UFO MIGHT BE CIRCLING EARTH WIRE SERVICE REPORTS — On Sept. 3, amateur astronomer Bill Yeung of Benson, Ariz., discovered what scientists at first believed might be a second natural satellite of Earth, in addition to the Moon and to Asteroid 3753, a.k.a. Cruithne, discovered in 1986. The new object has been designated "J002E3" by the Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, Mass. Mitch Battros of Earth Changes TV reported Sept. 12, "It has been described as a 'minor planet,' then changed to an NEA (near-Earth asteroid), then changed again to an NEO (near-Earth orbit)." Yeung discovered the object in CCD images taken with an 0.45-meter telescope from his private observatory. The object appears to orbit the Earth approximately every 50 days. Subsequent reports from NASA and the BBC have indicated that J002E3 most likely is a Saturn V booster segment from the Apollo 12 mission, launched on 14 November 1969. When jettisoned it settled into an Earth orbit with a period of 43 days, similar to that of J002E3. The capture of J002E3 occurred when it passed near the Earth's L1 Lagrange point, a region of space where the gravitational attractions of the Earth and Sun approximately cancel one another. J002E3 is the first known case of an object being captured by the Earth, although Jupiter has been known to capture comets in a similar fashion. Whatever the definitive finding is regarding J002E3, many in the UFO community have speculated it is in an ideal location from which an extraterrestrial intelligence, or ETI, could monitor activity on and around Earth. An advanced civilization on one of the estimated hundred million Earth-like planets would likely send out interstellar, robotic probes. The Roswell crash could have been such a probe; since then, an advanced civilization would have had more than 50 years to organize new, more-energetic operations. During the summer of 2002, immediately prior to the detection of J002E3, UFO sightings increased, according to reliable sources. There were more than 400 documented reports per month in the United States alone between June and August 2002. Anomalous energy signatures are being reported that indicate heavy reconnaissance activity. BRITISH POLICE HELICOPTER FILMS UFO BRIGHTON, U.K. — A police helicopter allegedly sighted a UFO traveling across the British coastline and followed it for approximately 10 miles. None of the personnel aboard the helicopter had seen anything like it before or since. The object, they reported, resembled a white, vertical cylinder. Some images captured by the crew during the pursuit show it emitting light. The video can be seen with the complete story on the BBC Web site. ESSAY/OPINION KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST GIVES US A VIEW OF THE FUTURE By Maj. George Filer I feel we can learn from the past. Throughout recorded history, there have been more accounts and more evidence of UFOs than most people realize. According to the Koran, the Bible and ancient Babylonian writings, there was a flood of colossal proportions that drowned the Earth, and only a few humans were saved on Noah's Ark. Ancient writings of many Native American peoples also tell the story of a great, Earth-cleansing deluge — exactly the kind of catastrophe that might have been caused by a large meteor strike in the ocean. What if a similar natural catastrophe had threatened a budding civilization on Mars? The denizens of Mars might have chosen to retreat underground for greater safety; they might even have made a desperate bid for escape to another planet, one with a more protective atmosphere — a placid, blue-white planet right next door, cosmically speaking. UFOs exist, and our ancestors told tales about them before the dawn of written language, in paintings and drawings made during the Paleolithic period on cliffs and in caves. Humanity's earliest creative art is amazingly rich in detail and rivals that of the great European masters. If we visit the Stone Age caves of France and Spain today, we see spectacular paintings of bison, deer, mammoths and bears. There also are painted objects apparently flying above these animals. In the parlance of archeologists these flying forms have been given the name "tectiforms." I showed my three-year-old granddaughter Alex the paintings; she can identify each one of the animals and also pointed out the UFOs flying above them. There are hundreds of these drawings with disks shining down their lights, as well as images of flying triangles and flying wings. A few birds with wings can also be seen — and their depictions look nothing at all like the disks, triangles or wings. Numerous ancient writings, such as the Biblical account of Ezekiel's wheel, tell of ancient flying objects. One such vessel is the "Boat of the Sky" commanded by the Egyptian sun god Ra, who sailed over the heavens. This craft originally was called the Uaa Nu, "the divine boat of Nu," or Noah. In the first century, many Roman soldiers carried shields that bore the likeness of a disk-shaped UFO carved on its front. The sky god Mithras was worshipped in Persia, and the religion spread to Rome. Mithras was the holy mediator between heaven and earth; he was believed to have controlled the rain — and he also had a flying boat in the sky. The Indian Vedic writings in the Mahabharata tell us that there were gods who could fly and that King Varuna was associated with Noah. The Ramayana describes a vimana as a double-deck, circular flying craft with portholes and a dome. It flew with the speed of the wind and gave forth a melodious sound. Nancy Redstar has interviewed the leaders of numerous American Indian tribes in her book Star Ancestors, and many tribal leaders and medicine men agree that their people were brought to Earth from another planet. Could the Native Americans be descendants of refugees from Mars? I view the force behind creation as intelligent and loving, and it seems logical that life would have been placed on numerous planets, not just our own.
