If you know of any other information or tools that you think would be useful to the community, please mail your suggestions and ideas to UFO@www.scifi.com In 1961, astronomer Frank Drake set out to develop a scientific formula to calculate the number of technological civilizations that might exist in the universe. Known as the Drake Equation, the formula identifies factors that might play a role in the development of such civilizations. [] It is difficult to know with any certainty whether you have been an alien abductee. To date, no one has been able to offer concrete proof of the phenomenon. Yet there are many people in the world who claim to have had this experience. With no proof and conflicting opinions, how can you know if you have been taken? [] Over the years many individuals have claimed to have had abduction experiences. While almost all of the cases have commonalties, there are also significant differences. Richard D. Butler created a system to classify the most common types of abduction reports. [] In 1972, Dr. Allen J. Hynek published The UFO Experience: A Scientific Study, laying the groundwork for serious scientific study of UFOs. The book contained one of the most famous and important contributions to UFOlogy, the Hynek Classification System. This system provided a way to categorize or group UFO sightings, and is famous among the general population for coining the phrase "close encounters." [] By Jacques Vallee In 1990 Jacques Vallee, Ph.D., developed the Vallee Classification System. Expanding on the Hynek System, Vallee produced a methodology for classifying UFO experiences that takes into account more details, including the reliability of the witness and the possibility of mundane explanations.
