Sherman Blackstone is a high-school biology teacher. Mischievous and spiritual at the same time, he seems to know everyone's destiny — and when questioned, he mixes lies and the truth so masterfully that it becomes almost impossible to tell which is which.
Canadian-born actor Graham Greene is a full-blooded Oneida who was born on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. With a body of work spanning more than three decades, he has distinguished himself as one of the world's most famous and accomplished Native American actors. Best known to film audiences for his Academy Award-nominate supporting role as Kicking Bird, the Lakota holy man who befriends Kevin Costner in Dances With Wolves, he also achieved wide notice for his turn as a Lakota tribal policeman in the action-thriller Thunderheart, starring Val Kilmer.
Greene's first acting role, in 1974, was as a member of the now-disbanded Toronto theater company Ne'er-Do-Well Thespians. He broke into film acting in 1982 with a role in the movie Running Brave. He followed that with a turn in Revolution, opposite Al Pacino, in 1984. Among his other feature-film credits are roles in Lost in the Barrens; Clearcut; Maverick, with Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and James Garner; The Green Mile; Die Hard With a Vengeance; and Transamerica.
After his breakthrough performance in Dances With Wolves, Greene made forays into television acting, first as a Navajo lawyer on L.A. Law, and then as a Native American shaman on the quirk dramedy Northern Exposure. He also has turned in notable performances in such made-for-TV movies as TNT's Cooperstown, with Alan Alda, and Huck and the King of Hearts.
In 2004, Greene accepted the Earle Grey Award for lifetime achievement at the Gemini Awards. He currently resides in Toronto with his wife.
