Her work toward her Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Maryland included the impressive senior thesis "Einstein's Twin Paradox: A New Interpretation." Scully graduated from the Academy in 1990 and taught forensics there for two years, during which time she engaged in a nearly year-long intimate relationship with a fellow Academy instructor, Special Agent Jack Willis. Scully was assigned to the X-Files Division on March 21, 1992. Scully, a scientific skeptic, was led to believe her purpose was to debunk the work of X-Files Special Agent Fox Mulder. In actuality, she was planted to provide a sympathetic counterpoint to whom the psychologically isolated Mulder would wish to "prove himself," thereby spurring and accelerating his investigations into areas useful to us. Scully has herself proven extraordinarily useful to us above and beyond her own extraordinary professional skills. We utilized Scully to help keep Mulder in check by placing her in mortal peril when necessary. We arranged her 1994 abduction from Skyland Mountain resort in Virginia for use in a surrogate-mother program for birthing alien/human hybrids (see "Children," above) for a slave workforce. At that time we implanted a techno-organic chip, whose removal by doctors (subsequent to her unforeseen discovery of it) led to a quickly spreading cancer. (The disease went into remission following the implantation of another chip.) In 2000, after Mulder's abduction by shapeshifter aliens sympathetic to our cause, Scully became partnered with Special Agent John Doggett, who had headed the FBI task force investigating Mulder's disappearance. Through our hybridization program, we recently arranged for her pregnancy using DNA material harvested from Mulder. This resulted in the birth of a hybrid son, William. The infant's current whereabouts, however, are unknown; he is not with Mulder and Scully, who currently are classified fugitives.
